Olin Henry, Sr.

June 27, 1949 ~ February 11, 2016 (age 66) 66 Years Old


Mr. Olin Henry entered eternal rest at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston Salem, North Carolina on Thursday, February 11, 2016.  On June 27, 1949, the late Dougie and Lettie Eller Henry gave birth to Mr. Olin Henry in Davidson County.

Mr. Olin Henry is a native of Midway, NC.  He attended Dunbar High School in Lexington, NC completing the 11th grade.

Throughout his childhood, Mr. Olin Henry was an avid baseball player; this love for the game grew into Mr. Henry becoming an active coach for his children's little league teams. He also had a strong passion for the game of checkers.  Warm sunny afternoons under the giant tree in his backyard is where he played the game with family and friends.  Often times, he faced his friend and rival Mozel.  Olin also had a strong aspiration for gardening.  He loved music and he also loved to dance.  He and his sister-in-law, Susan Burgess, won many of the dance contests at school functions.  Olin loved his wife and kids dearly.  He would travel everywhere with them from amusement parks to beaches, quite often Carowinds and Myrtle Beach.

He worked at T.F.I. over 30 years in the utility depatment and the warehouse of Dar-Ran Furniture for more than 15 years in shipping and receiving until retirement.  He received many gifts and plaques from his jobs, honoring his exceptional loyalty and devoted service.

Olin accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at an early age.  He attended righteous Church of God abd Brook Temple in Midway for many years.  He joined Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in 1980.  He was a faithful member.  He served as a Deacon, a Nurse Aide, in Missionary Department and he was on the Male Choir and Senior Choir.  The late 1st Lady Henrietta assigned Olin to be her husband's armor bearer.

Mr. Olin Henry was united in matrimony to Sarah Canty on March 29, 1969.  While living in Pinewood, SC, their first and third child was born.  While living in Thomasville, NC, their second and fourth child was born.  He leaves to cherish his memories: his devoted wife of 47 years, Sarah Canty Henry, daughter Yvonne (Cory) Fortune of Thomasville, NC, daughter Melissa (Carlos) Johnson of High Point, NC, son Olin Jr. of Thomasville, NC, and son Aaron (Nateisha) Henry of Thomasville, NC.  Eight grandchildren: Courtney, Quantisha, Tiffany, Shontera, Shanell, Kamel, Jaylen, and Briel.  Four great-grandchildren: Nymoni, Christopher Jr., Ca'leah, and Ariana.  Two God children: Tyress Tate and Kia Davis.

He has two sisters: Deaconess Willie Ann (Deacon Bobby Sr.) Poole and Peggy (L.C.) Flowers both of Thomasville, NC. One brother Roger (Doris) of Chicago, IL. Brother-in-law Aaron Canty, Jr. of Pinewood, SC.  Lawrence (Barbara Ann) Canty, and Matthew Canty both of Thomasville, NC.  Sister-in-laws Minister Susan (John) Burgess of Thomasville, NC, Thelma Henry, Vera Henry of Chicago, IL, Maryln of Milwaukee, WI, and Marie of Minnesota, MN.  A special cousin Kaye Lindsay. A host of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends (Mary-Sue Alexander).

Preceding in death, brothers Carl Lee, Charlie, and Michael. Sisters Wanda Mae, Lena, Margaret and Diane. Grandmom and Granddad, Essie and Roscoe Eller, Aunt Naomi Clark, Rena Bell Smith and Nellie.  Mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Blue Canty of Pinewood, SC.
